AMA with Sasha 4/10/24

Another week, another AMA session with the Waves’ founder Sasha Ivanov. This week, Sasha has prepared some updates on the ecosystem progress, answered lots of questions and had a live dialogue with the community members. Key Points:

• Units Network is an extremely important project for the whole Waves ecosystem, and beyond. But what is the idea behind it? With Units Network, anyone can run their EVM blockchain on the already existing and active Waves infrastructure! And you may ask yourself, “Why launch your own blockchain?” The answer is, it will give you much more freedom to develop your ecosystem than if you just run your token on a third-party blockchain.
• The development of Units Network is mostly complete, and we are currently running an active marketing campaign, so everyone is welcome to participate: https://app.units.network/. Just follow the link and start completing tasks to get points which will turn into UNIT0 in 3 weeks. You can either sell it or use it to participate in our DAO, where active participants will share the income from all future projects!
• Ths AMA had a contest where Sasha picked the top 3 questions from the audience. The best question got $3K worth of L2MP token, $2K for the second and $1K for the third place.

Q & A

Q: I'm actually interested in the process of the Units Network launch. Can you explain in a little more detail what it would look like?

Sasha: Yes, I think we will soon start announcing launchpads and exchanges where we will be listed. Also VCs are helping us with onboarding of a number of projects that will be launched after Units' release. As for the timing, at the end of October we will launch MainNet Units and complete a number of listings.

Q: Why did you skip the last two AMAs?

Sasha: I've been reviewing our approach to social media coverage and I think we should do our AMAs on multiple channels. For example, right now we're doing our AMA on X, and the next one will likely take place on Telegram, which will allow us to build a bigger audience before the launch.

Q: What are your plans for Waves after the launch of Units Network?

Sasha: I think the goal is to launch at least 100 side chains over the next year. And in the meantime we are going to develop and update the Waves blockchain

Q: What would be the vesting period of UNIT0?

Sasha: The period will vary from person to person, for example our campaign participants will have one and the Launchpads will have a different period. On average it will be about two years, which is a long time. However, keep in mind that the purpose of this vesting is to ensure the stable growth and successful launch of Units Network, primarily benefiting current and future UNIT0 holders.

Q: I didn't notice any direct advertising for Units Network. If it does exist, what is it and how would you rate its effectiveness? 

Sasha: I don't think that's a fair statement. Right now we are running a marketing campaign that has brought about 2 million new users to our socials and other channels. Not to mention that when listings start coming in, the marketing campaign will continue. Perhaps that's when you'll see more conventional advertising and results.

Q: Sasha, what are your thoughts on Units Network at the moment?

Sasha: I think this project has what other similar L2 projects don't and won't for a long time. The main goal of Units Network can be expressed as follows: As an L2 project with the goal of improving the scalability of its ecosystem, Units Network should be an endgame in the development of the L2 narrative. That is to find and implement the best approach to implement L2 and EVM side chains, beating anyone else to it. And I think we can do it.

Q: And after that?

Sasha: After that we'll do something else. I for one am extremely interested in DAOs and want to develop Power DAO. Before that, however, we will be occupied with Units Network for quite some time.

Q: Could you tell a little more about the role of the Units DAO?

Sasha: Of course! Other projects similar to Units Network are currently extremely centralized and we see this as a drawback. A more decentralized platform in this situation should have a more stable development and management model.
