Units Network Hackathon Recap

The Units Network Hackathon 2025 brought together some of the brightest minds in blockchain development for an intense two-day event filled with innovation, collaboration, and groundbreaking ideas. With a $13,000 prize pool up for grabs, participants had the opportunity to push the limits of blockchain technology while working alongside experts and fellow developers. Here’s a full recap of what went down.

A Weekend of Innovation and Collaboration

On February 20–21, we hosted the Units Network Hackathon at Workinton Lotus Nişantaşı in Istanbul. The event brought together 16 teams (a total of 48 participants) consisting of blockchain enthusiasts, developers, designers, and student clubs. With a $13,000 prize pool and special categories, participants competed to create innovative projects that expand the blockchain ecosystem.

The Opening Ceremony began at 12:00 AM on February 20, followed by the developers’ session at 1:00 PM, just as planned. The coding period wrapped up at 5:00 PM on February 21, and the Closing Ceremony started at 5:30 PM. Winners were announced at 6:00 PM, right on schedule. After that, our kick-off event carried on late into the night!

  1. First team: $5000 (Atom Team)
  2. Second Team: $3000 (Garaj Team)
  3. Third team: $2000 (BANÜCHAIN)
  4. Fourth Team: $1250 (Trust Team)
  5. Fifth Team: $750 (Inventra Team)
  6. The Best Presentation: $500 (Kapsül Team)
  7. The Most Efficient Coding: $500 (TAU Blockchain)

Seven teams shared the $13,000 prize pool during the closing ceremony, rewarding both technical excellence and creativity. Special recognition was given to teams that excelled in presentation and coding efficiency.

The Participants and Their Journey

The hackathon welcomed a diverse group of 48 participants forming 16 teams who worked intensively on their projects during the two-day event. Units Network mentors and jury members provided support on technical, blockchain, and project development matters. Thanks to its central location and comfortable setting, Workinton Lotus Nişantaşı offered an ideal environment for productive collaboration throughout the event.

Meet the Winning Apps

Following the jury’s evaluation, three teams emerged as the top winners:

  1. Atom Team - Atom Wallet is a modern and user-friendly ERC4337 smart wallet application with AI-powered features. Enhanced with Account Abstraction technology, this wallet provides users with an advanced blockchain experience.
  2. Garaj Team - Units.Network 2024 Istanbul Decentralized Electric Charge Station Project. Garaj Team tackled the challenge of making electric vehicle (EV) charging more accessible, transparent, and efficient. Using blockchain technology and a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) approach, they developed both a mobile app and a hardware prototype that enables station owners to register and stake tokens, and drivers to locate, pay for, and manage charging sessions securely. This model reduces reliance on centralized networks, ensures more fair pricing, and can integrate renewable energy sources for a cleaner EV ecosystem.
  3. BANÜCHAIN introduced Credix, a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) lending and borrowing solution aimed at offering greater flexibility than typical DeFi lending pools. Their approach allows lenders to define custom interest rates and loan terms, while borrowers can select the offers that best suit their needs. By using a minted stablecoin (UUSDT) on testnet, Credix eliminates many of the liquidity and fixed-rate constraints found in traditional lending systems. Future plans include Oracle integration, cross-chain lending, and a bidirectional credit system to further enhance user autonomy.

Key Challenges and Lessons Learned

During the hackathon, we noticed some recurring hurdles among several teams. Here are some key takeaways for future participants:

  • Documentation & Workshops – Some teams jumped into coding without reviewing the Units Network documentation or attending pre-hackathon workshops, leading to unnecessary delays.
  • Time Management – Overly long planning phases left certain teams with less time to build a functional prototype, affecting their final demos.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We extend our gratitude to all participants, mentors, jury members, and partners. With 16 teams, 48 participants, and countless groundbreaking ideas, this hackathon was an inspiring experience for all. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
