Waves Launches TürkiyeDAO to Rebuild Schools After Earthquake Devastation.

In the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria, Waves is proud to announce the creation of TürkiyeDAO, a non-profit DAO dedicated to rebuilding schools and supporting emergency relief efforts. With over 8000 schools affected by the earthquakes, and over 70 schools completely destroyed, the need for support has never been greater. TürkiyeDAO aims to raise $1.2 million to build a new school in areas affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake and provide critical resources to those affected.

Why start TürkiyeDAO?

In times of crisis, any help the government can get to rebuild is important and necessary. With so many schools destroyed or damaged, children go without critical schooling. According to recent reports, over 21% of students and 19% of teachers are in the affected areas. Over 20,000 education buildings were examined, with 72 schools completely destroyed, 504 heavily damaged, and 2000 moderately damaged. Furthermore, 17 universities were impacted, with 9 buildings destroyed and 111 heavily damaged. The total cost of repairs is estimated at 39.69 billion Liras or approximately 2 billion EUR. TürkiyeDAO aims to help rebuild schools and provide critical resources to those affected by the earthquakes.

What Will TürkiyeDAO Do?

TürkiyeDAO seeks to raise $1.2million by July 2023 to fund the development of a new school in an area affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake. In March 2023, TürkiyeDAO entered into a partnership agreement with the Istanbul Philharmonic Society to accept donations, document the use of funds, and provide receipts for covering the cost of building the school. 

TürkiyeDAO will be based on Power Protocol
The DAO will be based on the Power Protocol; this gives some unique advantages to getting involved as a governor and donor. Power Protocol enables funds escrow until goals are reached, so reduces the risk of funds not going to what is promised. Once the funds are raised, they will be released for use by the DAO governors. The governors are the community of $POWER token holders who stake their $POWER to this DAO. They risk losing their $POWER - through slashing - if their actions do not work towards the completion of the DAO goal. This again reduces the risk that funds are misused. 

The DAO setup will go in 2 stages:

• March 2023 - July 2023 - Initiation period: Goal to raise $1.2million.
  TurkiyeDAO will propose to join PowerDAO. The goal is to reach $1.2million in donations by July 2023.
   
• August 2023 - September 2024 - Action period: Goal to build a school by September 2024.
  All donations will be held in escrow until July 2023, where if the goal is met, they will be released to governors. If the goal is not met, funds will be repaid to donors. 

If the fundraising goal is not reached within the period, all donations will be repaid. This removes risk from your donation, as it will only be used IF the DAO can gather enough funds to complete its school-building mission.

Roadmap

TürkiyeDAO has a clear roadmap to achieve its goals. The fundraising begins now - March 2023, and aims to raise $1.2 million by July 2023. In August 2023, TurkiyeDAO will tender builders for the school, and construction will begin in September 2023. By June 2024, the school will be built, and management will be handed over to local authorities. Finally, in September 2024, the school will be in session.
